The project entails the conservation and restoration of the marouflage paintings (canvas attached to wall) which adorn the ceiling of the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Nadur, Gozo.
These paintings were executed by one of the pioneer and most prominent artists who have contributed in embellishing Maltese and Gozitan churches during the 20th century – Guzeppi Briffa (1901-1987), and are thus part of the Maltese artistic heritage and patrimony. Unfortunately these marouflage paintings are at present in an advanced state of deterioration and risk being lost. Following intensive years of scientific studies and investigations to tailor for the right conservation-restoration methodology, Amy Sciberras has made it her mission to save and restore Briffa’s marouflage paintings
