About Us
Amy Sciberras M.Sc., B.Cons. (Hons), is a professional, freelance conservator-restorer with more than ten years of experience. She has her own conservation studio in Malta, and leads a small team of conservators. Amy has been entrusted with the restoration of numerous works of art of national and international importance, including artworks coming from various Museums, Palaces and Churches, including unique artworks from the Archbishop's Curia.
Amy has also worked on frescoes within the UNESCO world heritage site of Pompeii, and is the only conservator-restorer specialised on marouflage paintings, which are canvas paintings attached to the interior of architectural surfaces. Over the years, she has worked on the conservation of canvas paintings, panel paintings, paintings on copper, wall paintings such as oil on stone murals, lime paintings and frescoes, as well as polychrome sculptures and gilded artifacts.
Amy has been entrusted by Heritage Malta with the conservation and restoration of some important large-scale paintings at the Grand Masters’ Palace, such as the full portrait of Catherine the Great, a masterpiece by Dimitri Levitzky (1735-1822), which was subsequently exhibited at the Tsaritsyno Palace Museum in Moscow. She also restored two very large early 19th-century oil-on-canvas paintings by Pietro Paolo Caruana, measuring 3m x 2m, depicting the saints Michael and George. They were commissioned by the first British Governor, Sir Thomas Maitland, to commemorate the institution of the Order of St Michael and St George in 1818.
