Prior to conservation-restoration treatments, the painting exhibited extensive tears and was also heavily overpainted. Treatments carried out included the alignment of torn canvas threads and tear repair carried out under magnification, consolidation treatments, a double-relining procedure so as to reinforce the original deteriorated canvas support, cleaning treatments and removal of overpaint, infilling of losses and pictorial integration.
